MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed hope that the observance of the Al Isra Wal Mi’raj will encourage unity and perseverance in the country.

On Sunday, Marcos joined the Muslim-Filipino community in commemorating Al Isra Wal Mi’raj, or the Night Journey and Ascension of Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement, Marcos underscored the significance of the occasion and the values it represents for Muslims.

President Marcos described Muhammad’s journey as a testament to the faithful’s deep commitment to “understand the significance and purpose of their continuing traditions of faith.”

“Let this observance also serve as a reminder that success is the reward of diligence and amity, and that sacrifice, persistence, and faith can guide us towards realizing our shared purpose in building a peaceful and progressive nation for all,” he added.

The Al Isra Wal Mi’raj is among the most revered in Islam, serving as a test of faith for believers and “one of the greatest signs and miracles given to the Prophet after the Qur’an.”

It is recognized as a Muslim holiday under Article 169 of Presidential Decree No. 1083 or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.
